We’re looking for creative work that pushes the boundaries of art. Experimental work that evokes visceral emotions, and includes nuanced, new perspectives from a variety of backgrounds. We believe that art is the best community builder that we can provide. We look for work that fosters interconnected-ness, and highlights all the different sides of the human experience. Pomelo Pulp accepts works of fiction, poetry, creative nonfiction, visual art, multimedia art, and music/audio art across all genres. We hope to see your work of art displayed in our digital atrium!

Fiction: 5,000 words, 1 submission per person in a pdf document

Creative Nonfiction: 5,000 words, 1 submission per person in a pdf document

  • If your poem is accepted, there is a possibility that we might reach out and ask for a recording of you reading it

Deadline to submit is March 18th, 2025. We will be assessing submissions as they come in.

Have fun!

Writers’ Guidelines:

We want to hear about your roots. In our tree of literature, the most significant stories can be found below the surface, digging into the depths of the human experience. We’re committed to sharing works featuring a variety of writing voices and styles of art. We appreciate stories that entwine the strange and mundane.

We are looking for fiction, nonfiction, poetry, scripts, and art. All written works should be formatted in Times New Roman 12 pt font, double spaced, and submitted as a .pdf. You can submit once per category in up to three categories. Poetry submissions are up to three poems and art submissions are up to three pieces in each submission. We do not accept work created with generative AI or works that have been previously published. Dual submissions are great, just let us know if you choose to go with something else.

We are considering works as they come in, up to March 18th.

All accepted works will go through our editing process, working with our editors on global and local edits to help your work reach its full potential

What we’re looking for:

Chiaroscuro is now accepting submissions for prose, poetry, & visual art. We love the cozy and pleasant as much as the strange and unnerving. For some works, this is a spectrum to blend, explore, and experiment with, while others comfortably fit in their snug corner of wholesome fun or surreal horror. We want to showcase artists who use these boundaries as tools to uncover the emotional depths of the human experience, and love to prop up voices that have been historically underrepresented in literature (BIPOC, LGBTQ+, neurodiverse), but we accept submissions from anyone with art to share. Give us your hopes and fears.

Submission Guidelines:

  • We accept:
    • Prose Stories (Fiction or Creative Nonfiction)
      • 1 story, maximum of 5,000 words. Acceptable file types: PDF

    • Poetry
      • 3 poems of any length. Acceptable file types: PDF

    • Visual Art
      • 1 image, made analog & scanned or digitally drawn/created. Acceptable file types: PDF, jpeg, HEIC, png

    • Interviews/Reviews
      • 1 review of an artistic work, or interview with an artist, maximum of 1,000 words. Acceptable file types: PDF

Submission deadline is March 18th, but we will be reviewing submissions as they come in. You can submit to multiple sections, but we will only publish one work per person. We will not accept submissions that use generative AI in any form. For questions, please contact us at: chiaroscuro-journal-group@willamette.edu
